
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12 1988,) is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian woman to win Canadian Idol's third season in 2005. She is an actress and is famous for her performances as Two as Rebecca and Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was widely praised by the judges, she had a huge setback in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, since she was placed in the lowest three and the bottom two and bottom two, respectively. The judges were stunned by this and encouraged viewers to vote for Melissa for her vocal talent. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil did not slip back into the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a contender to win everything". O'Neil and Rex Goudie both made it to the second round of the show on September 7 the 7th of September, 2005. Following yet another impressive performances, Werner declared that "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away Long live Queen". In the grand final results presentation on September 14, 2005, O'Neil defeated Goudie to be named the third Canadian Idol, as well as the first female winner, as well as (at 17) the youngest contestant in the show's history.
