Nora Lum began her musical path as a trumpeter. Her birthplace was Forest Hills Queens, she was the child of Chinese immigrants and Koreans. Following her Jazz and classical training She delved into hip-hop as a teen. While in school, she concentrated on journalism and woman's studies. She studied Mandarin briefly in Beijing. However, it wasn't until she graduated that she turned her attention to music. Following her viral success on the Internet the track My Vag was a reaction to the Mickey Avalon song My Dick. It eventually made its way onto her debut album Yellow Ranger. The album featured other hit songs that went viral, such as the body-positive Queef and winking hometown tour NYC BitcheUSD. The second track linked into Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, published in 2015. This was a different initiative.
